What's On in 2019/20

Please note that the monthly illustrated talks  take place in the MAIN HALL at THORNHILL SCHOOL.   The  venue is large and comfortable and there is ample parking there as well. The talks will continue to commence at 7.30pm and last for approx. one hour. Doors open at 7pm - all are welcome. The talks are £1 to members with a £2 cover charge for visitors.The society's talks are held on the THIRD Tuesday of each month - Sept to June (see times above). The following are all illustrated talks commencing at 7.30pm and last approx one hour.  Doors are open at 6.50pm

The talks take place in Thornhill School main hall 

19th Nov           The Miners' Strike of 1984-5 in the North East  by Alan Smith

17th Dec           Dead Bodies and Dark Places - The Memoirs of a bitter and disgruntled old polis  by Norman Kirtlan

 

 The society's archives at 6 DouroTerrace (just up frm the Civic Centre) are open to everyone to visit throughout the year  EVERY WEDNESDAY and SATURDAY, 9.30am to 12.00 noon. Members and visitors are welcome to come and view the Society's vast collections of documents, maps and photographs.

The Society's Annual Christmas Fair will be held 10.00 - 1.30pm on Saturday, 16th November at the Heritage Centre in Douro Terrace. Local history books, DVDS, craft stalls and great ideas for Christmas presents. 

Do come along, support and enjoy coffee and mince pies
